HIKE DESCRIPTION
Grayson Lake is home to some great fishing and boating
but when you step out of the boat, or kayak, and step on to the Lick Falls trail, you’ll see Grayson Lake’s beauty from a different point of view. The Lick Falls trail has a lot to offer for being a short 3mi. You start the trail to the right of the front gates to the campground. If you want to add a 0.8mi to the trail, begin the trail all the way at the end of the campground and get on the Beech Hemlock Trail. Going counter clock wise you’ll walk across the golf course and continue the trail in the woods on the other side.
There is a descent climb just past the Buckeye Branch before you make your way down to a wide Lick Branch creek where you can hear the sound of the waterfall just up ahead. At Lick Falls is where we usually stop to take a lunch. depending on the season the Falls can be pretty powerful and snakes its way down to the lake below. This is also the furthest away from the campground and golf course you’ll be.
From there, the trail takes you along the cliff’s edge where you get the best vistas of Grayson Lake. Just before ending the trail there is another mini water fall that lies just beneath wooden bridge you must cross to and work your way back to the trail head.
